When many Germanic peoples were exiled from their fatherlands or left due to political unrest, they had to create new lives for themselves in other countries. Many of these people, whom are referred to as Forty-eighters, settled in Davenport, Iowa. Upon their arrival, they brought with them elements of their German culture and society to make a place of their own. This exhibit highlights the contributions that these immigrants had upon Davenport.
